LACONIA — One person died following a single-motorcycle crash in the Weirs early Sunday morning.
Laconia police responded to the area of 945 Watson Road shortly after midnight, after a citizen driving by that location spotted a wrecked motorcycle a distance off the road.
When officers arrived, Kyle Banks, also known as Kevin Francoeur, 59, of Turner, Maine, was deceased, according to police.
The crash is under investigation by the Laconia Police Department. It’s believed Banks was driving along Watson Road in the direction of Scenic Road when he traveled roughly 150 feet off the roadway, struck a metal pipe in the ground, and collided with a pile of logs and a log splitter in the yard of a home.
Police believe the accident occurred a while before the scene was discovered by the passing motorist and reported to police.
“The motorcycle was cold to the touch,” when officers arrived, Chief Matt Canfield said Monday afternoon.
Police believe Banks was responsible for the crash, and speed may have been a contributing factor. Investigators are awaiting results from a toxicology report.
There was not another passenger aboard the motorcycle. Police believe Banks was not wearing a helmet.
No charges are anticipated.
