PBS has revealed the All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 trailer, which teases big changes for the beloved characters. Premiering in 2026, the new season features a time jump to the end of World War II, when there are new babies to raise and new animals to care for, but the same love for friends and family. However, the trailer does hint at a split between Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and Skeldale housekeeper Mrs. Audrey Hall (Anna Madeley), a pair that fans have long hoped would eventually become romantically linked. That still seems possible, but there’s now a question of how apparent distance has affected their dynamic.
Based on books written by Alf Wight (under the pen name of James Herriot), All Creatures Great and Small centers on a trio of veterinary surgeons working in the Yorkshire Dales in the late 1930s. It premiered in January 2021 on PBS via Masterpiece and has become one of the network’s most popular series.
Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming sixth season.
Is there an All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 trailer?
Yes! PBS released the first Season 6 trailer on Thursday, September 11 (see above).
Season 5 saw lots of changes, including James (Nicholas Ralph) returning home from RAF training due to his brucellosis diagnosis. Elsewhere, Mrs. Hall signed up as a blackout warden, and Siegfried welcomed his younger brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) back to Darrowby. The season delivered an emotional ending, as Mrs. Hall found out her son Edward’s ship had been hit and sunk off the east coast of Malaysia. She initially feared her son had died, but she later received a call from Edward to tell her he was alive and well.
All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 takes us back to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for more heartwarming human and animal tales, but this time, we find our beloved Skeldale gang in a somewhat different situation as we join them in 1945, just as the war in Europe is coming to a close. We arrive back in Darrowby to veterinary advancements, expanded families, and new faces as they all look ahead to a brighter and more peaceful future. This season will see Herriot’s wonderful characters navigating the opportunities that a new world brings, a host of animals great and small, and of course, each other.
The trailer is all about finding your way home after trying times and reconnecting with your home and loved ones. We see James and Helen’s (Rachel Shenton) son a couple of years older. They also have a daughter named Rosie now, as previously revealed in the Season 6 photos. After Tristan is seen having an emotional moment at a war memorial, the trailer cuts to Siegfried and Audrey in Skeldale.
“It’s good to see you again,” a visibly moved Siegfried says to Audrey, who replies with a tender, “You too.”
The All Creatures Great and Small Season 5 finale was a difficult episode for Mrs. Hall as she feared for her son’s safety following the attack on his shop. He was wounded but thankfully made it out alive. Season 6 photos show Audrey at a train station after the war has ended. Did she spend some considerable time away from Yorkshire Dales and leave her position at Skeldale to care for her wounded son?
Who’s in the All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 cast?

Helen Williams / Playground Entertainment and MASTERPIECE
West, Madeley, Ralph, Shenton, and Woodhouse are all returning for Season 6. They’re joined by returning stars Patricia Hodge (Mrs. Pumphrey), Tony Pitts (Richard Alderson), and Imogen Clawson (Jenny), plus Mollie Winnard, Conor Deane, Cat Simmons, and Lamin Touray.
New cast members for Season 6 are Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde, Philip Martin Brown, and Chris Gascoyne.
The jury is still out on James Anthony-Rose’s Richard Carmody, who was accepted onto a research programme at Imperial College London last season, which could mean he is absent from the new season.
When does All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 premiere?
There is no official air date set for the sixth season yet, but PBS says it will come out in early 2026. The trailer above says that it’s coming out this winter, so expect a January or February premiere date in the U.S. Season 6 comes out this fall in the U.K.
