Sandra F. Barnes, 92, of Manchester, died peacefully in her sleep Jan. 5, 2025, at Riverside Health Care.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lyman H. and Ruth King Franz, and grew up in Englewood, New Jersey. Sandra graduated in 1954 from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She worked at WWLP-TV in the 1950s and was a library technician for the West Hartford Public Library for 12 years.
Over the years, she was active in The West Hartford Garden Club, the Moultonborough United Methodist Church, Friends for Moultonborough Library, Moultonborough Historical Society, and Resident Council for Riverwoods Retirement Community in Manchester.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, genealogy, attending the theatre, and making friends within the local community. Sandra was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many, maintaining lifelong correspondence with friends from all areas of her life. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Family includes her beloved husband of 70 years, Philip E. Barnes of Manchester; three sons, Jeffery E. Barnes and wife Sallie of Shipman, Virginia, Steven L. Barnes and wife Mary of Orwell, Vermont, and James L. Barnes and wife Charlene of Westerly, Rhode Island; five grandchildren, Maria, Leah, Stephanie, Jessica, and Kimberly; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by both parents and a sister, Lois Steenberg of St. Paul, Minnesota.
There are no calling hours. A committal service will be held at a future date in West Hartford, Connecticut.
