LACONIA — Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative’s Broadway show choir, the Power Chords, will be rounding out 2025 with its third and final session, which started this week.
The session concludes just before Thanksgiving with the annual Power Chords Holiday Concert on Friday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 23, which features a fun mix of Broadway show tunes and classic holiday hits. While new members can join any time, the beginning of a session is a prime opportunity.
“Power Chords has given me the opportunity to release my inner singing voice. It is a non-judgmental, accepting, fun group. I am proud to be a Power Chord,” said Power Chords member Patricia Sweeney.
Power Chords was started in the Spring of 2023, led by Music Director Lorraine Barrows, and has had a core group of around 40 members since then.
Barrows said, “I love the experience of bringing active music participation back into people’s lives. So many of our singers sang in college or high school, or church choirs but may not have sung for several years. Singing such fun Broadway and holiday music with a large group brings back confidence and bolsters skills.”
Members must be 18+, but there are no other requirements beyond that. Singers of all backgrounds and experience are welcome and there are no auditions to become a member.
Rehearsals take place on Sundays at the Laconia Congregational Church from 6:30-8 p.m. For more information, visit powerhousenh.org/power-chords.
