WOLFEBORO — Homesteading is taking center stage at Makers Mill, where hands-on classes invite participants to dig into practical skills rooted in self-sufficiency and creativity — values that trace back to the organization’s beginnings in sustainability and community building.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, longtime homesteader Robert Dougherty leads “Garden Winterization” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and “DIY Rodent Control,” from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., sharing real-world experience from decades of living off the land. Then on Sunday, Oct. 12, 1 to 4 p.m., Deb Halstead teaches “Weave Your Own Harvest Basket,” guiding participants through the art of crafting a functional basket for harvests or home use.
Dougherty returns Saturday, Oct. 18, for “Beginner Trapping,” at 10 a.m. offering an introduction to one of the oldest American trades through demonstration and discussion.
These workshops come just ahead of Makers Mill’s free community celebration on Sunday, Oct. 19, marking the completion of its building and gardens — a milestone for the region’s nonprofit makerspace and vocation hub.
