MEREDITH — The Town of Meredith’s general fund balance will soon increase by $1,550 following the auction and sale of an old fire truck-turned-water pumper used by the department of public works.
The 1975 Ford C900 Fire Truck, featuring an automatic transmission and V8 gas engine, still runs and drives, but had “reached the end of its useful life for the town,” said Chris Janosa, human resources generalist for Meredith.
“The money from the auction will be deposited in the unanticipated revenue portion of the general fund,” he said.
The side of the truck is emblazoned with “Meredith Public Works,” and Director of Public Works Mike Faller said. "[The truck's] worked fine for us.”
The bidding began online at $1 on Sept. 16, with offers open through Sept. 30. Thirty-five bids were placed for the two-wheel drive truck. The lucky winner hails from Texas.
A press release about the vehicle auction asked, “Have you ever wanted to own your own fire truck? Well you’re in luck.” The message from the marketing agency added it was the perfect purchase for a construction business, landscaping company or volunteer fire department.
