PLYMOUTH — The Pease Public Library and the Plymouth Historical Society will co-host Jennie Powers: The Woman Who Dares, a Zoom presentation by Jennifer Carrol that is sponsored by the NH Humanities. This event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

Jennie Powers took a stand against social vices in NH and Vermont in the early 20th century. She was a humane society agent in Keene from 1903-1936 and one of the first humane society agents to become a deputy sheriff in NH. Jennie was known across the country as “The Woman Who Dares,” cited by the Boston Post newspaper in 1906 as having arrested more men than any other woman in America. As a photographic activist, she used her camera to document animal cruelty, family violence, and widespread poverty in the Monadnock region and beyond.

To register to have the Zoom link emailed to you, go to www.peasepubliclibrary.org or call the Pease Public Library at 603-536-2616.
