LACONIA — The New England Wolves team hosted its Annual JBT game at the Merrill Fay Arena on Saturday, Jan. 17, and raised over $50,000 for the Cure Starts Now foundation to battle childhood cancer.
The annual event allows shooters to fundraise among their local community and compete in a mini 1-on-1 shootout challenge during the intermissions of the junior game played on that evening.
This year's matchup featured the hometown Wolves vs the Islanders Hockey Club from Massachusetts. In front of a packed crowd of 500 fans, the event is one of the highlights of the year on the Lakes Region calendar.
In total more than $50,000 was raised including $9,562 raised by a Gilford High School freshman individually.
The shootout was won by Brooklyn Rainey, and the Wolves emerged victorious in an 8-3 triumph. Latvian native Andis Rupeiks recorded a hat trick.
