MEREDITH — theatre KAPOW (tKAPOW) continues its 18th season with “What the Constitution Means to Me” by Heidi Schreck at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse in Meredith on Feb. 6-8 and BNH Stage in Concord on Feb. 13-15.
Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the U.S. In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human Pulitzer Prize-finalist play, she resurrects her teenage self to trace the critical relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives. “What the Constitution Means to Me” is a personal look at the nation’s most debated document and how it could evolve to fit modern times.
The show is directed by Emma Cahoon, who directed last winter’s production of “Every Brilliant Thing.”
“In our present moment, history seems to be changing rapidly,” Cahoon said. “Schreck’s play reminds us of the importance of looking back and constantly placing ourselves in relation to the events and people who have come before us.”
tKAPOW’s theme for this season is "reverberate." Cahoon said, “As individuals and as a nation, nothing about who or where we are now is an accident; we are reverberations, ripples, echoes of the legacies that have preceded us. Schreck invites us to reach across time and principle to reflect on our histories together, hold the mirror up to one another, and even to laugh together at our own missteps.”
The ensemble of actors features tKAPOW company member Carey Cahoon and returning actor Nick Meunier, who last performed in “Mr. Wolf.” tKAPOW welcomes Adia and Inaya Robinson-Wood, both 11th-grade students at New Hampton School, performing in alternate shows. The show is directed by Emma Cahoon and stage-managed by Claire Soleil Gardner, who is also providing dramaturgical support. tKAPOW company member Tayva Young is the lighting designer, and costume design is by Barbara Holbrook.
ASL Interpretation will be available at the Sunday, Jan. 25, matinee performance in Concord.
