Paul J. Hilliard, 75

NEW HAMPTON — Paul John Hilliard, 75, of Old Bristol Road, passed away on Sept. 3, 2026.

Paul was born on Dec. 5, 1950, in Laconia, the son of the late Armand Hilliard and Geraldine (Chase) Bundy.

Paul served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, where he made a profound sacrifice, losing his leg in combat. He received a Purple Heart upon his return from the war. Despite the challenges that followed, he faced life with remarkable strength, determination, and courage. His service and sacrifice were a testament to the kind of man he was — brave, resilient, and devoted to those he loved.

Away from his military service, Paul found some of his greatest happiness in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, and many cherished memories were made with a rod in his hand, a rifle over his shoulder, or simply enjoying the peace and beauty of nature. He treasured the time spent outdoors with family and friends and was always happiest when sharing those experiences with the people he cared about.

Paul will be remembered by his strength, his stories, his sense of humor, and his unwavering spirit. He lived a life marked by sacrifice, perseverance, and love. Though he carried the physical reminders of war, he never allowed them to define him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Paul is survived by his son Geoffrey A. Hilliard and daughter Jennifer A. Hilliard. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, David Hilliard.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
