LACONIA — The Laconia Heritage Commission, at their May meeting, proudly presented the first Property Enhancement & Preservation Award to Clare H. and Michael J. Persson for their accomplishment in preserving, enhancing and maintaining their historic home. The Persson’s gave a brief history of the home that was built in 1887. The Persson’s are only the third family to reside there following the Achber Family. “As soon as we walked through the front door, the beautiful oakwood and light shining in through the large windows showed us the soul of this solid old home”. They continued, “But, it wasn’t just the physical home that spoke to me. We saw it for the first time on a cold, dreary March day in 1997. The next-door neighbor and the neighbor from across the street came out to greet us when we were seeing the home with our realtor. They had young children too at the time, and said it was a neighborhood with “mom’s eyes” everywhere. That was the clincher and we’re grateful we’re here these 25 years later.” “We will continue to be the best stewards we can be of this old home until it’s time to pass it on to someone else who will care for it…. but we have no plans on doing that anytime soon!” If you have a home of at least 50 years old and would like to be considered for this award, contact the Laconia Planning Department at 603-527-1264.
