LACONIA — For two days in February and again for two days in March, residents will be unable to conduct business as usual with the city of Laconia. The interruption is due to planned upgrades to the city computer network with the first interruption occurring Friday, Feb. 9, and Saturday, Feb. 10, and the second on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9.

During these periods, the computer network will be taken offline to allow the city to consolidate infrastructure in a secure, climate controlled location.

While this is happening, basic services such as motor vehicle registration, vital records requests and even telephone service will be unavailable.

“Like many organizations, our IT network has grown incrementally over the years. It’s now at the point where we need to consolidate infrastructure to improve efficiency and security. Unfortunately, it means a short interruption of services, but in the long run, it will mean better, more effective service to the citizens of Laconia,” said City Manager Kirk Beattie.

Beattie noted public safety services provided through the police and fire departments will not be impacted by this project. These two departments will continue to operate as normal during the transition period. Also not impacted will be the transfer station.

The project is planned over two Friday/Saturday combinations to minimize interruption of services. The plan for both transition dates is to have the new systems active and ready to go on the following Monday mornings.
