BRISTOL — The Newfound 5th-6th grade boys basketball team wrapped up an impressive 2025-26 season with a 28-12 overall record, showcasing skill, teamwork, and determination from November through March 19.
Competing in the Merrimack Basketball League, Newfound battled its way to a runner-up finish in the highly competitive Gold Division, falling in a hard-fought championship game to Outing Club, 44-38. Throughout the season, the team proved itself as one of the top programs in the region, capturing tournament championships in Mascoma, Lancaster, and Newfound, while also earning runner-up finishes in Dunbarton and Bow.
The roster featured a balanced mix of fifth and sixth graders, along with one standout fourth grader who played up and made a major impact.
Leading the way offensively was Becket “The Young Gun” Dyer, the youngest player on the team. The fourth grader showed no fear competing against mostly sixth graders, finishing the season with a team-high 285 points and establishing himself as a key piece for the future.
Right behind him was his brother, “Downtown” Brantley Dyer, who delivered clutch 3-point shooting all season long. The seasoned sixth grader knocked down big shots in critical moments and finished with 283 points.
Karter “The Enforcer” Bean, a fifth grader, anchored the team defensively while also contributing heavily on offense. Known for his aggressive play, steals, and rebounding, Bean totaled 225 points and emerged as a vocal leader who consistently did whatever it took to help the team win.
Kellan “The Strategist” Hogan brought versatility and basketball IQ to the lineup. A sixth grader, Hogan played multiple positions throughout the season and was instrumental in executing key offensive sets while maintaining strong defensive play. Hogan also contributed 192 points on the season, providing a steady offensive presence.
Cardigan “The Quiet Sniper” Untiet developed into one of the team’s most improved players. The fifth grader evolved into a reliable scoring threat from anywhere on the court, transitioning between guard and post positions with ease. He will be a key returning player on both offense and defense next season.
Boake “The Spark Plug” Larson provided energy every time he stepped on the floor. Despite being one of the smallest players, Larson played fearlessly on defense and energized teammates with his hustle — and his signature dance moves.
Brecken “The Hype Man” Hutchins brought unmatched enthusiasm and leadership. Known for his vocal presence and in-game encouragement, Hutchins also made major strides on the court, improving his shooting and playing aggressive defense throughout the season.
Thomas “The Technician” Dakel rounded out the group of sixth graders and was one of the team’s most improved players. A quick study of the game, Dakel excelled on defense and rebounding while helping coaches identify and adjust to opposing strategies.
Brady “Big Board” Nadeau used his size and height to dominate the glass all season long. With his tall frame and long arms, Nadeau pulled down key rebounds and played aggressive defense, protecting the paint and shutting down opponents in his area. One of the most improved players on the team, Nadeau will be missed as he moves on to the next level.
As a team, Newfound outscored its opponents by an impressive 316 points, tallying 1,341 points while allowing just 1,025.
More importantly than the numbers, this group built its success on teamwork, unselfish play, and relentless effort. Whether it was making the extra pass, locking in on defense, or supporting teammates, the players consistently put the team first.
With several key players returning next season, the future of Newfound basketball looks bright. If this season was any indication, this group has laid the foundation for continued success in the years ahead.
