CENTER HARBOR — The snow has finally disappeared as warmer weather approaches, revealing what is hidden below. Only it's not crocus and daffodils emerging along the side of the roads. It's bottles, cans, papers and other litter. Even old tires and and a few hubcaps.
In celebration of Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, the Town of Center Harbor is organizing its annual week-long, town-wide, volunteer effort to clean up the trash that accumulated along the roads during the past year.
Everyone in town is invited to pitch in along any road at any time during the week of April 16 through April 22. Help beautify the road on which you live, your own neighborhood or the town green. The town Department of Public Works will collect and dispose of all the trash bags volunteers fill, which should be left on the side of the road for pick up. Just let the department know at chec@metrocast.net where in town you would like to pitch in so that trash bag collection and disposal can be scheduled. Volunteers are especially needed to tackle the roadside trash along Route 25, Route 25B and Route 3.
The Town of Center Harbor will provide trash bags, vinyl gloves and safety vests, all for free. Email chec@metrocast.net if you would like any supplies set aside for you. They will be ready for you to pick up at the Town Hall, 36 Main St., starting Monday, April 17 through Friday April 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you would like more information or to volunteer for the Fourth annual Center Harbor Roadside Clean-up, email Town Energy Committee chairperson Carol Sullivan at chec@metrocast.net.
