To The Daily Sun,
Kurt Webber is someone who supports the public schools. He was on the Gilford School Board and he knows how to balance budgets while making sure our children get a great education. This is one reason I support his candidacy for state senate in District 2 where he will represent the towns of Ashland, Belmont, Campton, Center Harbor, Gilford, Holderness, Laconia, Meredith, New Hampton, Sanbornton, Sandwich and Thornton.
In New Hampshire, about 95% of students attend the public school system, so getting funding right is very important to us all. Our state is last in the nation for funding public schools. It has downshifted costs to local communities for decades, raising local property taxes. At the same time, Tim Lang and the Legislature has reduced the Business and Enterprise Tax reducing funds available to fund our schools; and while small businesses save hundreds of dollars, it is large out-of-state corporations who are the significant benefactors with, by best estimates, few gains in employment.
High-quality public schools are significant in attracting new residents with young families, to support our businesses and industries, and to enjoy the benefits of an informed citizenry. Kurt is aware that the NH courts have declared the state must provide real, adequate funding for our schools. In contrast, Tim Lang, our current senator, voted for HB 1815, which reduced state aid to education, and voted no on a bill that would have increased state support to public schools.
These are the kinds of issues Kurt Webber will address when elected, to be benefits of all residents of NH. Join me in voting for Kurt Webber.
