Mark Weinreb: Answers to some rhetorical questions about Trump policies

We shouldn’t respond to the writers of this newspaper’s editorials. However, a recent editorial praises President Donald Trump's policies by “asking” rhetorical questions. I would like to answer these questions with common sense answers.

She writes, "How can we explain that “billions of unvaccinated people are still alive...?”

The simple answer is: “herd immunity”. If unvaccinated people live in a highly vaccinated area (a value of >95% for most infections), the risk of an unvaccinated individual getting that infection and then dying from it, markedly decreases. Recently in a county in Texas, the vaccination rate fell to below this number and a measles outbreak is still occurring, with over 800 cases and two deaths.

Another question she asks, ”How does a 'dictator' want government accountability and shrinkage”?

Since Mister "Dictator" Trump was inaugurated, he has not been accountable to anyone (the definition of a dictator). He has not been accountable to the Republican Congress, or held accountable by the court system, as his administration commits "contempt" by refusing to return a non-criminal immigrant back to the United States after he was sent to an El Salvadoran prison due to an “administrative error”.

To answer the question of “shrinkage”, he has used an unaccountable agent, Mr. Elon Musk, to fire tens of thousands of federal workers (causing citizens who had paid taxes to not get services they need). In exchange, Trump has spent millions of taxpayer dollars on travel back and forth for golf tournaments, and publicity tours. So how much economic "shrinkage" has occurred?

As I am nearing the end of the word limit, I may answer some of these questions (about climate change) in a later editorial.
