To The Daily Sun,

Recently, concerns have been raised by the incumbent and current chair of the NHEC Board, Bill Darcy, suggesting that some candidates in this year’s board election do not share the priorities of cooperative members. As one of those candidates, I would like to respond.

I agree that affordability, reliability, and thoughtful long-term planning are critically important priorities for our cooperative and its members. That is exactly why I decided to run.

This election is not about choosing between reliability and renewable energy, or between affordability and innovation. It is about ensuring NHEC continues asking thoughtful questions, evaluating future risks and opportunities carefully, and planning responsibly for the decades ahead.

As someone who spent 20 years working in New Hampshire’s electric utility industry, I understand both the complexity of these issues and the importance of balancing competing priorities thoughtfully and responsibly.

The role of a board member is not to push ideology. It is to provide oversight, ask good questions, listen to members, understand emerging challenges, and help guide long-term decision-making in a way that serves the best interests of the cooperative as a whole.

Along with fellow candidates Brad Harkavy and Tom Randell, I am committed to continuing the positive momentum we have seen at NHEC in recent years while ensuring the cooperative remains focused on affordability, reliability, and thoughtful planning for the future. I encourage members to vote for me, Brad, and Tom, a thoughtful and future-focused team.

Online voting has started. Members can vote by signing into their NHEC SmartHub account or submit a mail ballot by 4:30 p.m. on June 10.
