LACONIA — A vehicle backing a trailer into Lake Winnipesaukee down a boat launch went into the waters of Paugus Bay Saturday. Local and state officers came to help, but the driver was able to get the vehicle out safely themselves.

Laconia Police and Fire, along with Marine Patrol by boat, responded to the boat launch on Weirs Boulevard, next to Liliuokalani's Ice Cream at 3:29 p.m. on May 16.

Marine Patrol Public Information Officer Tyler Dumont said that while Marine Patrol officers responded, Laconia Police handled the incident. The driver was able to get back onto land as police stood by. Laconia Fire Department sent an engine at the scene, as well.

“It wasn’t considered a motor vehicle accident, so an accident investigation wasn’t done,” Laconia Police Chief Matt Canfield said.
