Krista Loring: Why she's supporting Brianna Weller for District 7 state rep

The Towns of Alton and Barnstead have been stuck in Libertarian mud for the past few terms. I think Republican Brianna Weller of Barnstead would be a breath of fresh air for Alton and Barnstead in New Hampshire House District 7 and would support Republican — not fringe Libertarian — values.

When was the last time Barbara Comtois or her colleagues held a “town hall” meeting about state issues that affect our two towns? Here’s an example of such lack of attention: Cyanobacteria blooms and fecal bacteria closed beaches in and around Barnstead and Alton this summer, something which affects our residents, visitors, and our economy. From our current representatives? Silence. The condition of Alton’s Main Street, a state highway, has been an embarrassment for years. While the state is finally working on it, what has Barbara Comtois done to make it happen? Nothing. Nada.

In her 30s and a mother of six, Brianna brings a younger more moderate perspective to the table. She currently serves on the Barnstead Town Planning Board. Brianna states, and I quote, “When I go to the polls, I vote Republican but I feel it’s naive to think that only one party can have ideas that benefit people. I believe it’s important to listen no matter what their stance. I am a Republican but I want to hear from everyone. I want everyone to feel comfortable reaching out to me to discuss what is important to them. I want Barnstead, as a whole, not just a select few, to feel represented by me.”

Although she’s a newcomer, Brianna Weller knows how important listening to and communicating with her constituents would be. My vote is for Brianna Weller.
