LACONIA — Police are searching for a man who reportedly walked up to an unknown minor, initiated a conversation, then groped her at Opechee Point at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, near the baseball fields.

“We take matters like this very seriously,” said Police Chief Matt Canfield on Friday afternoon, who said there is an active investigation into the situation, which involves a 13-year-old.

"[We are] working to identify the individual.”

Police are seeking information from the community about the incident and suspect, who is a white male in his 20s or 30s, with brown hair and scraggly beard. The suspect was wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt and black vest.

Homeowners are encouraged to check security footage for any leads, and share with law enforcement.

“We are asking the public who may have seen someone matching the description to take a look at their home surveillance and contact us,” Canfield said.

He cautioned kids to use the buddy system, and parents to talk with their kids about safety.

“We take these things seriously and encourage parents and guardians to talk to kids about personal safety,” Canfield said. “Kids should stick together.”
