BELMONT — Leaders of Climaxe Throwing plan to permanently close the attraction on Wednesday, Jan. 28, after a handful of years providing axe-throwing fun.

It was a decision the management team didn’t make lightly, said Brian Hansen, marketing director for Climaxe Throwing, who pointed to lack of business playing a factor in the closure.

“This space has been more than just a business, it’s been a community. A place for first-time throwers, league regulars, celebrations, and unforgettable memories,” according to a prepared statement on the Climaxe website and social media channels. “We are incredibly grateful to every single person who walked through our doors, threw an axe, cheered on a friend, or supported us along the way.”

Climaxe Throwing will remain open with specified operating hours until Wednesday, Jan. 28 as follows:

  • 5-9 p.m., Fridays, Jan. 16 & 23
  • 3-9 p.m., Saturdays, Jan. 17 & 24
  • noon-5 p.m., Sundays, Jan. 18 & 25
  • 5 p.m.-close, Wednesday, Jan. 28

Staff will offer glow throwing, similar to glow bowling, on Fridays and Saturdays until the closure.

“Expect glowing targets, electric vibes, and one final chance to throw with us in true Climaxe fashion. It’s our way of saying thank you and celebrating everything we’ve built together,” reads an online statement.

“Honestly, we just want to go out doing what we've done for the life of Climaxe Throwing, offering people a place to have a fun time and showing them the joys of axe throwing,” Hansen said. “Glow throwing was something the ownership had success with and we thought it would be great to bring it back. We had a Glow Throw event in December that went well, and it seemed like a great idea to offer it for these final weekends.”

The entertainment-based retailer will not have to lay off any employees, as the ownership team were the sole workers. In 2022, owners Nick Brough and Nick Gilman opened the space near Belknap Marketplace, with the idea of offering a new form of entertainment to the community.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of Climaxe Throwing,” the statement reads. “We hope to see you at least one last time before our doors close for good.”
