To The Daily Sun,
Many have been following the saga of EFAs, Education Freedom Accounts. Most recently there is another example of lack of accountability and transparency with the Children’s Scholarship Fund in the crosshairs. Repeatedly, readers have become aware of mismanagement at the expense of our public schools. This is a scenario that is playing out all over the country, a well-orchestrated scam, in my opinion.
As the town crier for Franklin, I do an expanded column for my Franklin Town Crier Facebook page and expand it beyond the 200-word limit for the Monitor. It includes more community events, often featuring student classroom involvement and into their wider school community and the Franklin community. I am blown away by the incredible examples of good citizenship, students helping students, high schoolers reading to elementary school students, a makerspace at the high school and improved attendance statistics largely due to the positive atmosphere in our schools. I could go on and on.
Students from K-12 at Franklin community schools are the glue that hold our community together and by fostering them during these formative years, our youth are well on their way to becoming good community members into adulthood.
As an older retired person with 50 years of experience in the City of Franklin, I am proud of the commitment the community makes to our youth. My school tax dollars should stay where we can see firsthand how they are being managed through representation on a local school board.
