NORTHFIELD — One person was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a head-on collision on Tilton Road on Monday.

According to Tilton-Northfield Fire Chief Sean Valovanie, firefighters responded to a call about an accident at 4:37 p.m. on Dec. 8, and crews arrived at 4:44 p.m. The accident took place near the Belmont line on Route 140.

Valovanie said the driver of the southbound car was badly injured and taken to Concord Hospital-Laconia to be treated. A passenger in the vehicle was assessed by Tilton-Northfield EMS, but refused transport to the hospital or treatment.

The driver of the northbound car was also evaluated by paramedics and and refused treatment.

Belmont Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Valovanie did not know the cause of the head-on collision, and referred questions to Northfield Police. Sgt. Ryan Smith, the investigating officer for the crash, was unavailable for a comment on Tuesday.
