Jessica Sargent: Disabled, working class are suffering beyond realization

I am writing to bring to light the hardship some people are going through. I submitted an application for disability last February and was denied. I have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, bone-on-bone knees, and back issues not allowing me to work. I have a lawyer working on my case but it could take another 12-18 months.

My husband was on short term disability for six weeks causing us to get behind on bills. We live in a coop, which refuses to work with us on the back rent. Town Hall refuses to work with us on back taxes just owed from last year. The electric company charges more for delivery than what is actually used. The car company and insurance are calling every day to get payment.

I know we are not the only ones in this situation. Getting approved for disability shouldn't take as long as it does. We are going to lose everything because they don't think I'm disabled. People every day deal with the same thing. I just started chemo drugs that takes me days to recover from. I have friends who are working so many hours but still can't pay all their bills. The economy is in a recession and the disabled and working class are suffering.
