To The Daily Sun,

There is a political bandwagon rumbling through Meredith that I am eager to board. Recent Laconia Daily Sun articles have highlighted local residents, Seth Wheeler and Dean Cascadden, who have decided to run for the two seats in our state Legislature that represent Meredith’s citizens. Both individuals are running as Democrats.

I’m not impressed with many of our state and nationally elected officials and think it’s time for new leadership starting at the local level. I’m writing this unsolicited letter of endorsement for Seth and Dean because I’m genuinely impressed with both gentlemen. They are well educated, well-spoken, and involved in many local community organizations and activities. Both are approachable, and I encourage Meredith residents to speak with them if the need or opportunity arises. Seth and Dean have identified public schools, our environment, rising property taxes, and returning civility to New Hampshire politics as their priorities.

Ninety percent of all voters nationwide were educated within our public schools. Public school graduates built this nation, and now these institutions need to be protected from the shortsighted who would defund and abandon them. We live in a truly beautiful region and need elected “champions" who will vigorously protect our lakes and forests. Many voters are beginning to realize that our state’s heavy reliance on property taxes to fund most public services is quickly becoming unsustainable. Finally, the current level of disrespect and name-calling that is so prevalent in today’s politics must cease.

I’m pleased that both men are first time politicians. They have expressed a desire to represent Meredith’s residents, while working cooperatively with other elected legislators, Democrats and Republicans. It behooves Meredith voters to pay close attention to who will represent us in Concord. Personally, I believe Seth and Dean would do a terrific job on our behalf.
