To The Daily Sun,

Although for the most part I have not engaged with letters to the editor, I will, however, respond to a recent letter accusing my campaign of setting a divisive tone.

My campaign is anything but divisive. When my supporters arranged for me to announce that I was running for mayor, it was open to all and I, for one, would never allow any citizen to be refused attendance at this, or any future events I will attend, simply because we may not agree. Anyone who is suggesting otherwise should be embarrassed.

For the record, I am not acquainted with Mr. Norm Silber and, if we were in the same room, I doubt I would recognize him.

This is an election — any and all who choose to be involved can and will always be welcome by me. I will not now — nor have I ever — refused to participate with someone simply because we disagreed. Further, I would hope to see the author of this letter at some upcoming meetings I will have between now and the election. I will continue to do as I always have; behave as a gentleman, run an honest and open campaign for mayor of Laconia, and will be very proud to once again represent the City of Laconia, this time as its mayor.

Councilor Bruce Cheney (Ward 1)
