Bruce Jenket: Why are letter writers defending the indefensible?

When reading The Laconia Daily Sun leftist letters to the editor, I shake my head and wonder. Why do those writers support not deporting criminal illegal immigrants, antisemitism, men in women’s sports, attacking DOGE for exposing government waste, fraud and abuse, etc.? It defies logic. These individuals are not stupid. By their writing style, I would surmise most have a college degree. Yet they defend the indefensible.

There is no single answer, but ideology is at the heart of all and it supersedes reason and logic. I wrote a series of letters in The Sun in 2020 after reading the book “Influence” by Robert Cialdini. George Floyd’s death and the riots that followed was at the heart of those letters. The book explained how the media can fabricate a false narrative (i.e. George Floyd was model citizen) and cover up the facts that he was a convicted felon, on drugs, that just committed another crime (paid with a counterfeit $20 bill) and he was resisting arrest at the time of his death.

The media’s false narrative fueled the 2020 BLM/Antifa riots and then they falsely claimed the $2 billion in damages and dozen or so murders in Democratic controlled cities were mostly peaceful. Apparently, that resonated with Democrats since Joe Biden won the 2020 election.

Which brings us to today’s Democrat farse. The deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The illegal MS-13 gang member from El Salvador deported back to El Salvador. Like the Floyd narrative, the mainstream media depicts Garcia as an “innocent Maryland dad abducted illegally”. Ignoring all of the evidence provided by Attorney General Pam Bondi to the contrary.

Will leftist contributors blindly follow MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. claiming this is a constitutional crisis? Or wake up to the fact they are “unknowingly” being used to undermine the Trump administration again.
