To The Daily Sun,
The voters in Ashland are being asked to vote Tuesday, May 6, on a $2.3 million bond to fund the upgrade of their 50-year-old electrical substation. They recently experienced a catastrophic event which left the town without power for over 18 hours.
This upgrade is necessary to restore reliable and safe services for Ashland. Other sources for electricity will not consider Ashland’s substation due to the need and cost of upgrading. It is too old to repair and would have to be made compatible with other systems at considerable additional cost to the town. The new upgrade will also be safer for the town’s technicians.
The cost to Ashland’s electrical customers will be around 1/2 cent per Kilowatt which will still leave Ashland’s electrical rates lower than surrounding areas.
