Memorial Day is this Monday, 25, and communities across the Lakes Region are holding events to mark the occasion.

Alton

Alton’s annual parade is put on by American Legion Post 72. People marching in the parade will meet at Monument Square at 9:30 a.m., with the parade to begin marching at 10 a.m.

The parade will march to the Alton Town Cemetery for a small ceremony, and then march back to Monument Square for laying of wreaths.

Belmont

Belmont American Legion Post 58 will conduct the Memorial Day parade for the town at 1 p.m.

The parade will form up at the middle school at 12:45 p.m., and march along Main Street from School Street to the Veterans Monument by St. Joseph Church for the ceremony.

Center Harbor

Center Harbor’s parade will begin at noon at Chase Circle, and lineup is at 11:45 a.m.

The parade will stop at Nichols Memorial Library and Center Harbor Town Docks, with a final stop at the Lakeview Cemetery on Main Street, with a special honoring ceremony at each stop.

Gilford

Gilford’s parade will start at 10 a.m., with a ceremony at the World War ll and Veterans memorial, across from Gilford Community Church.

The parade will proceed to Pine Grove Cemetery for a flag raising, followed by benediction, placing of wreath, remarks, and the playing of "Taps." The parade will then continue back to the church.

Laconia

American Legion Post 1 will host a Memorial Day commemoration from 8 to 10 a.m., at the post at 849 N. Main St. There will also be a ceremony following the commemoration at 11 a.m., at Veterans Square.

Meredith

Meredith’s day of honoring will start at Oakland Cemetery at 8 a.m., followed by Meredith Village Cemetery at 9 a.m.

The Meredith Memorial Day Parade will start at 9:50 a.m., at Meredith American Legion, 6 Plymouth St.

The parade will process to the library on Main Street, and the Swasey Cemetery on Lang Street, for a memorial service and wreath-laying in both locations. The parade will them proceed to Hesky Park and the POW/MIA memorial for a commemorative service. 

At the conclusion, all are welcome back to the Legion for a light lunch. All veterans are invited and encouraged to march with the Legion in the parade.

Northfield, Tilton and Sanbornton

Northfield, Tilton and Sanbornton will host their annual joint community Memorial Day parade, put on by American Legion Post 49, at 9 a.m. The parade will begin in the Winnisquam Regional High School parking lot.

All veterans are welcome to walk in the parade. Those who wish to do so should meet at 8 a.m. at the post, at 4 Park St. in Northfield.
