To The Daily Sun,
I am writing to support Bruce Marshall's bid for the Ward 1 city council seat in Franklin. Currently practicing law in Concord, he also brings four years of experience as an assistant attorney general for the State of New Hampshire and as a licensed civil engineer.Â
His unique skill set will apply well to service as a city councilor, which, in fact, it already has, since sitting in for the recently retired Ward 1 Councilor Ted Starkweather. For instance, the September Council agenda included a proposed sale of land to a nonprofit organization with worthy intent and goals. However, the proposed sale price of $1,000 was far from the assessed value of over $120,000, an extreme variance between the property’s assessed value and the proposed sale price. Avoiding a potentially significant delay, Councilor Marshall proffered an innovative solution providing the city with the protection of the right of first refusal, clearing the way for this public and private collaboration while protecting taxpayer interests.
In conclusion, Marshall's experience as an attorney, a civil engineer, and a current city councilor provides an excellent base for service as our next Ward 1 city councilor. While his opponent is a good man, his primary qualification seems to be that he has lived here for a lifetime. Bruce Marshall is the obvious choice for the citizens of Franklin.
