Anderson Arrest

Stephen Anderson

BELMONT — A local man is being held on bail after officers used a police dog and a Taser to arrest him on felony warrants.

Belmont Police arrested Stephen E. Anderson, 22, of 23 Woodland Drive, outside his residence Thursday evening after the department was alerted that he was wanted on warrants issued by authorities in both Belknap and Merrimack counties.

When Anderson became aware police were outside he tried to flee through the back door of the house, but was immediately confronted by the Police Department’s K-9 officer and his dog, police said.

Anderson refused to take a hand out of a pocket and the officer used his taser, police said. The taser was used a second time during a struggle to handcuff him.

Anderson was wanted in Belknap County for possession of methamphetamine and driving after being deemed an habitual offender.

Information about the Merrimack County warrant against Anderson was not immediately available.

On the Belknap County charges, Anderson was ordered held on $20,000 cash or $75,000 corporate surety bail.

In addition to the felony charges he was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.
