A political campaign sign was stolen from the Governor's Island yard of Jack McDevitt and replaced with one touting Mark Labonte sometime late early Sunday morning. McDevitt is an incumbent Fire Engineer who is up for election on Tuesday and Labonte is his opponent.

The incident is perhaps tame compared to the words that have been flying back and forth in local newspapers, but is certainly indicative of the passions stirred by what has turned into the most interesting race of the Lakes Region political season.

Gilford Police issued a statement on Sunday afternoon that reported they are investigating the incident at McDevitt's home, as well as other reports that political signs have been damaged or taken away.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the situation to call them 527-4737.
