NORTHFIELD — One adult woman is dead following an interaction with police early Monday morning, according to the Office of the New Hampshire Attorney General.

The incident likely occurred at a private residence on Vine Street as officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call. An adult woman was shot by one of the responding officers, according to a media release. She died at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and the name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of her family. An autopsy will be scheduled by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The state Attorney General's Office typically does not identify officers involved in a shooting until later in their investigation, after formal interviews are conducted. Michael Garrity, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire Department of Justice, did not return a request for information on Monday — neither did Northfield Interim Police Chief Mark Lewandoski.

Attorney General John Formella said his office is investigating, according to the media release. A spokesperson for State Police referred all questions about the shooting to the attorney general on Monday morning.

There’s no known threat to the public.
