Hello, my name is Natalie Allen and today I will be talking to you about Martin Luther King Jr. Martin is a historical figure known for changing the world through his view of segregation and racism. His "I Have a Dream" speech brought notice to segregation in America. The world we live in and the laws and treatment today has been deeply changed by his speech in 1963. Some effects from the speech is that no matter what skin color you are we can all go to school together, on the bus no one has too much power they get to decide where other people sit, everyone has the same laws and privileges as everyone else. Martin grew up with his parents Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta William King along with his older sister and younger brother. These people influenced and helped Martin to become the man he was. Now some people say Martin is a hero or the man who can change people's minds, but there were others who deeply disagreed. Those people thought Martin was wrong and he should be punished for even trying to speak up. Martin stood on the marble steps of the Lincoln Memorial and gave his speech, not caring what people thought but focusing on what this speech could do to not only change his kids lives but all children. Even through all the diversity and hate he still spoke of peace and non-violence. After giving his speech he gave people their own dream, something they could connect to and change. This important speech helped pass the bill in 1964 for the Civil Rights Act. From the time he gave that speech that will forever be learned about, to his tragic murder in 1968, he had achieved a lot more than people could in a lifetime. Including a Nobel Peace Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Martin Luther King Jr. and his "I Have a Dream" speech is one of the greatest and most influential speeches of all time and will be forever remembered for its impact on the world. Thank you for listening.
