WOLFEBORO — The person killed in a dump truck accident on Route 28 Wednesday afternoon was identified by police Friday as a boy under age 12 who was riding with his grandfather.
Wolfeboro Police Chief Dean Rondeau said the names of those involved have been withheld pending notification of family members.
The grandfather survived the accident, but there was no information available on his exact condition.
The accident took place shortly before 5 p.m., on Route 28, just south of the Ossipee town line. Police said the right front tire blew out on the truck, which  went into a hard right skid and hit a large pine tree.
Police said the young boy was found in the front seat of the truck and apparently died instantly in the crash.
The grandfather was treated at the scene by emergency responders and then taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
A joint investigation is being conducted by the Wolfeboro Police Department and members of Troop G, New Hampshire State Police.
