Relatives and friends of Rita and Albert LaFlamme gathered outside the Water Street Café Monday, where a new bench was dedicated to the couple who owned the previous shop at that site: LaFlamme’s Bakery. The family-owned bakery was a Laconia staple, started by Albert’s father Leroy in 1934 on Court Street. It eventually made its way to Main Street in the current location of the Landmark Inn, before moving to the corner of Water and Fair streets. The LaFlammes owned the bakery until 1988, when they sold it to Ted Roy, who created the Water Street Café. Roy’s nephews, Ethan and Oliver, took over in 2022, continuing the tradition of keeping the eatery family-owned.
