Area Democrats coordinated demonstrations in Laconia on Thursday — also known as May Day, or International Workers Day. 50501 New Hampshire, the Laconia Democratic Committee and the Belknap County Democratic Committee held rallies at O’Shea Industrial Park and at the intersection of South Main and Court streets, pictured here, on May 1. The rallies were meant to celebrate the contributions of workers and unions, and show support for immigrants, Laconia Democratic Committee Chair Jason Sproul explained. In a joint statement by Laconia and Belknap County Democrats, organizers said they welcome individuals of any political affiliation to express their beliefs. “On International Workers Day, May 1st, we celebrate all hardworking Granite Staters. We are helping to organize today's rallies in Laconia along with 50501 New Hampshire to recognize workers and immigrants for their contributions to our communities,” the statement read. “We welcome people of all parties — or no party! — to express their Constitutionally protected beliefs. Too many people feel forgotten by politicians in Washington and Concord. We are here to show that our Laconia and Belknap County Democrats have not forgotten anyone.”
