TILTON — A Vermont driver died early Friday morning after a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 93.

State Police identified Benjamin A. Wilson, 48, of Granby, as the victim in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 1:52 a.m. on Aug. 8, State Police dispatch received a report of a tractor-trailer crash on the southbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 57.

Troopers assigned to the Troop D barracks responded and, upon their arrival, identified the tractor as a 2025 Black Western Star and the trailer as a 2017 Blue Manac Trailer.

Through their preliminary investigation, troopers determined Wilson failed to negotiate a curve in the road, and the truck broke through the center median guardrail, traveled through the median and embankment and across the railroad tracks, and came to a final rest on its side in the Winnipesaukee River. The cause of his inability to negotiate the curve is under investigation.

The left lane of Interstate 93 southbound near mile marker 57 remained closed just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, and delays were expected through the area. Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Tilton-Northfield Fire District, the Tilton Police Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

All aspects of this crash are still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Conor Davis at Conor.K.Davis@dos.nh.gov.
