MOULTONBOROUGH — Police are investigating a series of vehicle break-ins, including one where one of the robbers may have had a gun, and are asking for the public’s help with surveillance footage and information.

Moultonborough Police wrote on the department’s Facebook page they are currently investigating an incident that took place at about 3:27 a.m. on April 27.

“Two individuals were observed entering an unlocked vehicle and removing property,” the department posted. “One of the individuals may have been armed.”

A post on social media on April 27, from a resident in a local group, included video footage of two masked people at an Old Route 109 property. One of them is holding something, which the poster believed to be a gun, and opened the unlocked truck’s driver door. The other walked around to a parked sedan, and tried unsuccessfully to open the driver’s side door. The timestamp on the video was 3:16 a.m. on April 27.

The person who posted the video said the masked burglars “broke into our cars and the neighborhood,” and while they are “all safe,” they were requesting people in the area check their surveillance footage, as well.

The post gained plenty of traction. It was “liked” 367 times, with 142 comments and 195 shares as of Friday afternoon.

Police are also investigating vehicle break-ins that took place overnight between April 29 and 30, in the area of Redding Lane.

Incidents tend to ramp up with the warmer weather, especially overnight, and police encourage residents to lock their vehicles, homes, garages, and outbuildings at night. Residents should also remove valuables from vehicles, or keep them out of sight. They also urge residents to keep key fobs away from doors and windows, use motion lights or security cameras, and park in well-lit areas.

A message left with Moultonborough Police was not returned by deadline.

Anyone who discovers their vehicle may have been broken into is instructed not to touch anything, as evidence may be collected. Residents are also urged not to attempt to catch a suspicious person, or any unknown people on their property. Instead, call the police immediately.

Those with surveillance footage, or anyone with information about the noted incidents, are asked to call the Moultonborough Police Department at 603-476-2400.
