DOVER — A Somersworth resident was charged after being found naked and fleeing the scene of an accident and disrupting highway traffic Sunday afternoon, State Police say.

Shawn P. Weiner Sr., 35, is charged with indecent exposure and lewdness, reckless conduct, two counts of disorderly conduct and littering by State Police. He’s scheduled to appear in Dover District Court at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13.

Officers with the New Hampshire State Police Communications Unit received multiple reports of a man interrupting traffic on Route 16 in Dover at 3:15 p.m. on March 6. Drivers passing by reported Weiner was naked, running or walking within the travel lanes of the highway, according to a release.

Troopers from the A barracks responded to the area, and located Weiner. Working with officers from Dover, troopers were able to take Weiner into custody. Weiner was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered in a car crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed Weiner was involved in an earlier crash on Varney Road in Dover, and fled the scene on foot. The vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Somersworth shortly before the crash, police say.

Troopers learned Weiner disrobed, discarding his clothing on the shoulder of the highway, before crossing all lanes of travel.

In addition to charges filed by the State Police, the Dover Police Department investigated the crash, filed separate charges, and kept Weiner in custody. The reported theft of the vehicle involved in the crash remains under investigation by the Somersworth Police Department.

Troopers were assisted at the scene and during the subsequent investigation by members of the Dover and Somersworth police departments, and Dover Fire & Rescue.

All aspects of the incident remain under further investigation. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Matthew Locke at Matthew.T.Locke@DOS.NH.GOV.
