Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu embark on their most perilous quest yet as Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026, continuing the adventures of the Mandalorian warrior and his unlikely apprentice. As the first theatrically released film directly tied to a Disney+ Star Wars series, the movie not only expands the world of The Mandalorian but also draws heavily from the lore and characters of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Written by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Noah Kloor, the outing finds the clan of two enlisted by the fledgling New Republic to help fight for the cause and find the scattered Imperial warlords who are still carrying out the Empire’s work across the galaxy.

During one of their assignments, the duo is assigned to locate and fetch Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White), but who is he? And what does the New Republic want with him? Here is everything you need to know about young Hutt.

Who is Rotta the Hutt?

First introduced in The Clone Wars movie, Rotta the Hutt is the son of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, a.k.a. Jabba the Hutt. Seen as an itty-bitty Huttlet, he is often referred to affectionately by Jabba as his “punky muffin” (“pedunkee mufkin” in Huttese) and nicknamed “Stinky” by Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein) due to his odor.

In the film, he was kidnapped by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, orchestrated by Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) with help from Ziro (Corey Burton), Rotta’s great-uncle, in a plot to discredit the Jedi Order. He was rescued by Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter) and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

Now grown up, he is the heir to his father’s criminal empire on Nal Hutta.

What does the New Republic want with Rotta?

It appears that Rotta is missing and his, ahem, loving aunt and uncle, the Hutt Twins, would very much like to see to his safe return. In exchange for the help of the Mandalorian, they will provide the Republic with information as to the whereabouts of a mysterious Imperial war criminal, “Commander Coin.”

According to the Hutts, Rotta was kidnapped by a criminal named Janu (Jonny Coyne) and is being held on Shakari, and they need a pro to help get him out. With the help of a street vendor (Martin Scorsese), Din Djarin discovers that Rotta has been up to far more than anyone realized.

What has Rotta been up to?

As it turns out, Rotta has been fighting and has become a bit buff in his time away from Nal Hutta. No longer pampered and living a life of sloth, his time in the fighting pits has transformed him into a lean, mean slug-like machine, complete with six-pack abs. He’s doing quite well for himself, too, earning a reputation as a surprisingly formidable combatant whose sheer strength and resilience make him a nightmare to face in the arena.

In other words, he might be a challenge for Din Djarin…
