Cameras are back up for Season 12 of Southern Charm. Bravo confirmed at the NBC Upfronts on May 11 that the Charleston crew is returning to the network, and we got some early scoop from Austen Kroll and Salley Carson about what to expect.
Season 11 featured a flirty relationship between Kroll and Carson, but by the finale in March, Kroll confirmed they were just good friends. The story continues into Season 12, though, Carson told TV Insider.
“We are good friends,” she confirmed. “But I think to figure out where we went from the [Season 11] reunion, you’re just going to have to tune in.” However, Carson noted that she and Kroll “had a really fun time” shooting a recent campaign for Fireball’s Dad Bod Whisky Fanny Pack.
In between filming Seasons 11 and 12, Carson and Kroll “naturally [spent] a lot of time together whether cameras are around or not,” she admitted. However, being back to filming has required them to “have tougher conversations” about things.
“It’s one of those things where it’s like, you can’t just text it in your group chat,” Kroll explained. “You have to articulate it out loud so people can hear it. So it brings issues or things to the top and puts them out there.”
Meanwhile, Kroll also teased that we’ll see more about his current relationship with longtime friend Craig Conover following their drama at the end of Season 11. “The [Season 11] reunion for me was one giant therapy session with Craig that I desperately needed to have,” Kroll admitted. “You guys see 84 minutes, but it’s 13 people, we’re there for seven hours. It’s a lot of unseen footage and stuff. So for me it was truly like … get it all out there so you never have to do it again. That’s all I’ll say about that.”
Kroll and Carson recently filmed a cheeky PSA for their Fireball collab, which was inspired by Carson’s “love” of Kroll’s dad bod, which she first gushed about on Southern Charm. “It’s a fanny pack that looks like a dad bod’s belly,” Carson laughed. “It’s full of 34 Fireball shots and it’s coming out right around Father’s Day.”
Kroll added, “Basically, what we’re trying to say, is the dad bod is becoming an endangered thing. People are so obsessed with fitness, especially on Bravo. Everyone’s seeing themselves on TV. And the dad bod is endangered. We’re trying to bring it back with Fireball and we did it in a funny and fun way with this fanny pack. When you see this belly, it’s, like, hairy and has a belly button on it. It literally holds this bladder, this liter bladder, that has a bunch of shots of Fireball in it that you should bring to parties and barbecues and anything to hang out with your friends.”
