Live With Kelly and Mark‘s “Stump Mark” segment took a surprising turn on Wednesday, May 20.
Every morning on the talk show, Mark Consuelos guesses which of a fan’s two statements is the truth and which is a lie. If the fan manages to — as the game’s title suggests — “stump” Consuelos, they win a mug and a special “Stump Mark” T-shirt.
Tennessee native Lisa Best called in with her two facts during Wednesday’s episode. “Here are Lisa’s two statements. ‘I participated in the Dolly Day Festival,’ or, ‘I performed at the Grand Ole Opry,’” Consuelos told the show’s audience.
When questioned about her statements, Best claimed that the Dolly Day Festival involves celebrating Dolly Parton by dressing up as her. Meanwhile, Best alleged that she did not sing on the Grand Ole Opry stage but was part of a clogging group that performed at the iconic venue when she was in grade school.
Consuelos referred to the show’s “Stump Mark” Instagram poll for help, and the results showed that more viewers believed Best’s statement about the Dolly Day Festival was true. “I was thinking the opposite. This is tough,” he stated. “I’m having a record May. I’m gonna do something that may ruffle some feathers, but I’m gonna do it.”
Consuelos went on to ask the caller if she has a family and kids, which she does. He took a brief pause before asking, “Alright. Do you swear on your kids that you participated in the Dolly Day Festival?”

Consuelos’ question surprised Best, the show’s audience, and Kelly Ripa. “I’m doing it!” he stated, to which Ripa retorted, “No, you are not. You are not doing it. Lisa, you do not have to answer that question.”
Best replied, “Thank you, Kelly. I’m not answering it. Thank you.” Ripa said to her co-host, “What kind of a monster are you?”
After Consuelos exclaimed, “I wanna win,” Ripa stated, “Look at everyone. They are horrified! People are gagged. They are shocked. They are outraged,” Consuelos jokingly argued that some people agreed with him, as well as pointed out an audience member giving him a side eye.
Ultimately, Consuelos stuck with his gut. “I’m gonna say you performed at the Grand Ole Opry,” he told Best. The caller got the last laugh in the end, as she said, “And you’re wrong!”
The audience reacted to Consuelos’ loss with loud applause. Ripa enjoyed poking fun at her husband, stating, “And that’s what you get, Mark!”
Consuelos agreed that he let his competitiveness get the better of him. “Wow. I guess the old adage, ‘God will get you back,’” he said at the end of the game.
