Brooke Shields recently confessed that she was “sick” to her “stomach” over her daughter, Rowan Henchy, joining the reality TV show Next Gen NYC.
On the May 20 episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, Shields, 60, promoted her new show You’re Killing Me. She also opened up about her elder daughter, Rowan, 23, joining Next Gen NYC Season 2, which premieres on June 24.
Jenna Bush Hager brought up Rowan’s reality TV news, pointing out that Shields made her on-screen debut at a young age. (She was just 9 when she appeared in the 1974 TV movie After the Fall.) However, Shield pointed out that a lot has changed since then.
“They didn’t have reality shows,” she said. “And you were not praised for bad behavior. Bad behavior was not really the goal. And so a lot of ratings, kind of, is geared towards that.”
When Bush Hager asked if Shields was “worried” after learning about Rowan joining Next Gen NYC, the supermodel admitted, “Oh, I was sick to my stomach.”
“I said, ‘Look, don’t be a f***-up. You know? ” she continued. “I mean, don’t. Like, be the one, the voice of reason. You’re gonna be fine, and if you want to parlay this — I mean, it’s Bravo and Peacock — and she wants to be in broadcast journalism, and she also likes being on camera. So I said, ‘See if you can translate that into another opportunity, and it’s a business choice that you’re making.”
Although Shields was initially hesitant about Rowan’s reality TV debut, she also acknowledged the positive impact it had on her daughter.
“Bad behavior is not the goal, and this should be a stepping stone of some kind,” she reiterated. “But it’s given her a lot of confidence in a way that’s so nice to see.’
In addition to Rowan, Shields — best known for her roles in Pretty Baby (1978), Wanda Nevada (1979), The Blue Lagoon (1980), Endless Love (1981) and more —shares a daughter, Grier, 20, with her husband, Chris Henchy, 62.
