BELMONT — Rodney "Rod" Cramer left us on July 29, 2025, to go on his next journey.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1944, in Northfield, Vermont, to Vivian (née Upton) Cramer and Walter "Dooley" Cramer.

Rod graduated from Northfield High School, class of 1962, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966. He worked for New England Telephone and retired from Verizon after 32 years.

Rod and his wife were members of the National Rifle Association and the Single Action Shooting Society and enjoyed years of competing with other shooters all around New England, New York and Pennsylvania. Rod competed in the black powder category.

Rod leaves his wife of almost 36 years, Cheryl Bosworth Cramer; stepsons Stacey Gates and Tyler Gates and grandchildren Raven Snowe Gates, Salem Gates and Lyra Gates. Rod also leaves children Cindy Payson (Tim), Dean Cramer, Jason Cramer, Courtney Jayroe and Thomas Cramer, and grandchildren Jaime Payson, Greg, Theron, Aidan, Karina, Cameron, Benjamin and Caleb. Rod’s brother, Stanley Cramer, predeceased him.

A celebration of Rod’s life will take place at noon on Saturday, Sept. 27, outside the home of Tyler Gates, 280 Taylor Hill Road, Danbury. Please bring your lawn chair and “come as you are.”
