EPPING — Robert E. Benoit, "Benjie," a lifelong banker and highly decorated Vietnam Marine veteran, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at the age of 77.
He was born in Littleton, on May 14, 1947. After graduating from Littleton High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, bravely serving two tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. Bob attended Plymouth State College earning degrees in accounting and education. He went on to teach at Pinkerton Academy in Derry. In 1979, Bob left education for a career in banking, holding leadership roles at Cornerstone Bank, Bay Bank and Bank of New Hampshire.
Bob enjoyed sports, especially playing golf at Portsmouth Country Club. He was an avid Red Sox fan and held season tickets for over 40 years.
Bob was an active member of the community and served as a director of the United in Wellness Leadership Advisory Board at Exeter Hospital, board member of the Southern District YMCA and Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Finance Committee Portsmouth Country Club, trustee of the New England School of Banking, treasurer of the American Institute of Banking New Hampshire, and a past president of the Jimmy Fund Council of New Hampshire.
Bob will be laid to rest at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
A celebration of life will be held at CR's The Restaurant at 287 Exeter Road in Hampton from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
