LACONIA — Richard “Dick” Keith Legassie, 77, of Union Avenue, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, July 7, at Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, after a long illness.
Dick was born on Jan. 31, 1946, in Portland, Maine, son to the late Fredrick L. Legassie and Irene (Cloutier) Legassie.
Dick enjoyed camping and riding horses when he was younger and he loved playing his guitars, which remained the one true love throughout his life. He was a member of the Dynamics earlier on and, later in life, the Dynamics and family members would get together every July 4th to a have a 4th of July jam session party with the entire family at the Groulou’s house, close friends of the family. Following the Dynamics, Dick joined and played numerous events with a well-known band around town, Sandy and the Good Time Band.
Dick was a veteran of the Vietnam War, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the VFW until the day he died and spent many nights shooting pool and spending time with friends. Dick worked many machinist jobs throughout his life, including Bergen Paterson and Baron Machine. He loved his dog Sabrina, who you could see daily walking her down Union Avenue rain or shine.
Dick is survived by his son, Richard W. Legassie and his wife Nena Legassie; son, Brian Legassie; daughter, Shannan Ross and her husband Sam; granddaughters, Brittany Corrine-Legassie Lange, Monique Legassie, Amber Ross and boyfriend Robert Leonardo, Autumn Ross, Angel Ross, and Aaron Ross; great granddaughters, Ava and Ayla Leonardo; siblings, Norman and Zilla Legassie, Cindy and Tom Balint, Ray and Mary Legassie, and Marcia Moore; sister-in-law, Kathy Legassie; nephews and nieces, Chris and Zandy, Kristy and Dawn, Jamey, and Shane and Paige. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother, Robert Legassie; brother-in-law, Jerry Moore; great-nephew, Tyler Balint; as well as his nephew, Jason Balint.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
Following Dick’s services, a graveside service for his brother-in-law, Jerry Moore, will be held at 10:30 a.m., also at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
