LACONIA — Peter “Pete” Nelson Dyer, 57, of Laconia, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by loved ones at Concord Hospital-Concord.

Born on June 21, 1967, to Rod and Gail Dyer, Pete was a lifelong resident of Laconia. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1986, and later attended a mechanical arts school in Providence, Rhode Island. When his father came home to find a fully disassembled car in the driveway, he realized that Pete was not destined to become a lawyer.

Pete’s passion for mechanics led him to work for many years with his good friend and mentor Pete Harris, before opening his own shop, Laconia Motorbike. His love for speed fueled countless weekends racing motorcycles at New England Dragway in Epping.

Outside the shop, Pete found joy camping in his restored VW bus. When there was any sort of social gathering you would usually find Pete in one of his signature Hawaiian shirts.

Pete was never far from a friend or two. His easygoing nature earned him friends for life. Though he had no children of his own Pete’s generous spirit made him a beloved “Uncle Pete” to many. He especially cherished his niece Carly and his nephew Benjamin.

Pete also had a deep love for animals, especially his three-legged boxer, Sable, who passed away on the same day. A bittersweet reminder of their unbreakable bond.

He is survived by his parents, Rod and Gail Dyer; sister Jennifer Dyer Bayko (David); companion Jasmyn Bristol and her son Gavin; niece Carly Laurent (Cale); nephew Benjamin Dearborn (Macy); as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Pete lived life in the fast lane as witnessed by his many trophies. He leaves behind a lot of laughter, great stories, and maybe a few extra motorcycle parts.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, in the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at the VFW Laconia Post 1670, 143 Court St.

For those who wish, the family suggest that memorial donations in Pete’s name be made to the Boys and Girls Club of the Lakes Region, 876 N. Main St., Laconia, NH 03246.
