Doris Merrill-Albert, 72, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2026, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Affectionately known as “Dorsey,” she will be remembered for her caring and generous nature, her love of the arts, and her deep connection to the Newfound Lake community.
Doris was the daughter of the late John Merrill and Hazel Huckins-Merrill and sister of the late Jack Merrill. She grew up at Merrill’s Campground on Newfound Lake, owned and operated by her parents, and remained closely connected to the lake and its community throughout her life.
A graduate of Newfound Memorial High School, Doris continued taking courses at Plymouth State University. She carried her love of creativity and the arts throughout her life. Doris worked in several local businesses and organizations, including managing Carroll Reed Ski Shop, working at Warehouse Furniture and LAT Collectibles, and serving as a receptionist at the Bristol Senior Center, where her kindness and warmth were greatly appreciated.
Doris will be missed by her son, Tyler Benton, and grandson, Oliver Benton, along with her extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Doris will be remembered for her generous heart, artistic spirit, love of Newfound Lake, and the kindness she shared with others.
A private family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s memory may be made to the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord.
