Carol A. Cross, 85

TILTON — Carol Ann (Lamprey) Cross, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023. She was born at home in Canterbury on May 29, 1938, the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Burleigh) Lamprey. Carol was one of 10 children.

Carol attended a one-room schoolhouse in Canterbury through the eighth grade and later attended high school in Penacook.

She married Albert E. Cross and they raised their son Tony in Northfield. Carol was employed by Tilton Endless Belt until it closed. She then went to work at Final Rince Laundromat in Northfield until 2021, where she was known as “the laundry lady.”

Carol loved gardening, sewing, and cooking, especially when it included family and friends.

She was a member of the Peabody-Mt. Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star in Tilton, Treasurer for Northfield Historical Society, on the Board of Directors for Park Cemetery Association, and was an original member of the T-N Old Home Day Committee where she was treasurer, worked on the chicken BBQ, and made blueberry pies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the pie-eating contest.

Carol was predeceased in 2009 by her husband, former Northfield Road Agent Albert E. Cross.

She is survived by her son, Anthony A. Cross, and his wife Wanita of Tilton, four grandchildren, Toni Marie Gloddy and her husband Scott of Tilton, Jason H. Cross and his fiancée Jennifer of Northfield, Anthony A. Cross Jr. and his wife Kenna of Northfield, and Jennifer Weisensee her husband Merek of Northfield, 10 great-grandchildren: Teagan, Hannah, Loralie, Jacob, Logan, Kinzie, Colton, Catherine, Trennen, and Joscelyn, and sister Lois “Cookie” (Lamprey) Palmer, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, 104 Park St. in Northfield, with a service at 5 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Park Cemetery in the spring.
